Judge Jennifer Bennett was elected to be the presiding judge of the 265 th Judicial District Court in November 2014. Before taking the bench, Judge Bennett served as an assistant district attorney in Harris and Dallas Counties for fifteen years. She was a supervising attorney, provided training for prosecutors and police agencies, and presented at conferences. During that time, she was the lead prosecutor in over 150 jury trials for cases ranging from family violence, to animal cruelty, and capital murder cases.


Since taking the bench in January 2015, Judge Bennett has presided over thousands of felony cases and more than fifty jury trials.

Judge Bennett also runs the Dual Diagnosis Aftercare Court helping people with drug addiction and mental health diagnosis. Judge Bennett and her team provide aftercare and specialized treatment for probationers.

She receives probationers from all of the Dallas felony courts who have gone through the 6 month in-patient treatment at the John Creuzot Treatment Facility Dual Diagnosis Program.

Probationers with mental illness diagnosis, as well as drug addiction, report to Judge Bennett and her team for aftercare. Judge Bennett has been recognized with several awards for her work including Mental Health America of Greater Dallas who honored Judge Bennett with their Special Recognition Award for the work she does.


Judge Bennett believes that everyone should be treated with dignity and fairness and believes in giving non-violent offenders an opportunity to succeed while working to ensure the safety of the community from dangerous offenders.
